Skateboarding has always been a DIY Community. We build our future together
Burnside came out of nothing but it became the cornerstone of all skateparks after it
I grew up skating in the 90’s and through videos and magazines I began to hear about this place being built by skaters in Portland called the Burnside Skatepark. It was until I was in my 20s that I was finally able to go see it in person. It was beautiful and gnarly all at once. And the skaters who skated there seemed to have a wholly other approach to skating. Fast, loose, and charging! Years after I moved to Portland, I was asked to draw a graphic to celebrate and raise money for the parks 30th anniversary. It all came together to be a success and it remains one of the most meaningful projects that I’ve gotten to work on.
